Carol Menke and I will be singing Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Marilyn Thompson at the organ this Good Friday beginning at noon at Saint Vincent's Church in Petaluma. This free performance is Church's Good Friday service. It is a great piece performed in a great acoustics. The lyrics tell the story of Mary, Jesus' mother witnessing the crucifixion of her son. Pergolesi wrote this when he was in his twenties, he died a few years later, leaving one to wonder what he might have written had he lived longer.
I love this composition. I love singing it with Carol. It has become an annual tradition and I know many people who are regulars in the audience. I invite you to become one of them and enjoy this poignant rendition of an incredible story through incredibly beautiful music.
