On good Friday, March 25, 2016, I will once again be partnering with my good friend, soprano Carol Menke, accompanied by Marilyn Thompson on organ in the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Petaluma.
We perform the piece singing from the balcony to the congregation below. This way we get to show off the gorgeous acoustics in the Church and the congregation gets to experience a wash of sound in a magnificent setting. Some people close their eyes and take in the music in a meditative way while others enjoy the visual splendor of the Church which was recently renovated.
And did I mention, it is free.
The performance begins at noon and lasts about 45 minutes. The translations of the sung text are read before each movement. The poem depicts the experience of Mary witnessing her son's crucifixion and is set to some of the most beautiful music of the Baroque era composed by Pergolesi.

..... a little blurry, we had to record in a pretty dark environment since some of the church lights created a hum. B flat I think.
